David & Julia opened Serendipity Road in Downtown Midland, Michigan on August 23rd 2017 with a passion to support community. Bringing Michigan Makers into one space creating a gift boutique that supports small business and builds economic growth in Downtown Midland and throughout Michigan. With continued desire to build the community on November 8th, 2019 they opened Joyful Tantrum a toy store unplugged so you can plug in with those you love. With the need for some wiggle room in the toy store to meet the customer need in 2021(and planning for the future)they started the hunt for a larger space and on May 5th, 2022 they opened Joyful Tantrum Recess at 4000 Jefferson Ave in the old Glovers building. Julia was asked in January of 2000 to give a presentation about finding your passion in life. In this presentation I talked about as a young girl pulling my sister in our wagon to Glovers and picking out gifts with her mom. It’s a joy to now to fill that space with gifts that are fun for all and create a space that will connect future youth with their community by creating memories of delight, wonder and curiosity.
