At Serendipity Road, we are passionate about showcasing the incredible talent of local makers. This month, we’re proud to feature Alex and Becky Teselsky, the creative force behind A State of Copper.
From Cabin Dream to Creative Innovation
Their story began in their Michigan log cabin, where they built a striking copper-and-stone bar. Wanting the perfect piece of art to complement it, they envisioned an image of the Great Lakes crafted from copper. But when they searched, they found nothing like what they imagined—no tutorials, no companies, no makers.
So, they did what true creatives do: they invented their own process.
The Art of Copper
Every piece created by A State of Copper is original and signed. Unlike laser cutouts, Alex and Becky’s work is formed through a 42+ step process, beginning with a flat sheet of copper and treated with natural acids.
The finished artwork is then sealed in a high-quality resin—equal to more than 200 coats of polyurethane. This protects each piece from oxidation and ensures it remains vibrant and timeless for generations.

We’re so grateful to share Alex and Becky’s artistry with our community. They are the kindest, most genuine couple. Whenever Alex drops off new art he always is so willing to share his story with the new members of the Moxie Crew and gift them a piece of art. One of our favorite visits is when Becky bakes the most incredible Chocolate Chip Cookies and they drop some off to us. Their copper creations capture the warmth of nature and the pride of Michigan craftsmanship which completely embodies who they are as people.
